Neil Saville
Neil Saville is an Associate Director - Systems & Safety Engineering and has spent nearly 30 years as a successful professional engineer in projects that span the lifecycle of rail transport assets for both Australia and the Asia Pacific.
With experience a design manager, group engineering services applications and through a secondment to GE Transportation systems in Pennsylvania USA, Neil has amassed deep experience in freight locomotives, passenger vehicles and wagons. He has previously managed engineering functions of organisations to ensure processes and controls are in place and appropriate for the expected outcomes for the business. This included assessment of core engineering competencies for staff and contractors.
Neil previously held the position of the Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) within UGL Rail between 2007 - 2016, where he acted in an engineering policy setting and governance role and as the UGL Rail internal regulator, providing assurance of design and configuration management competency. Neil was the recognised engineering authority and provided specialist technical direction, guidance and advice to both internal and external customers. A key role of the OCE was to define and control technical approvals and certification of rail products across all disciplines for design, manufacture, refurbishment & maintenance projects.
Neil in his previous roles also been involved in product design from concept to in-service operation, which includes manufacturing and remanufacturing of locomotives. He has also been heavily involved in tendering, procuring assurance and testing of rail vehicles.
Neil has deep experience in the field of rail safety, the development and review of safety assurance arguments and the conduct of Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) reviews.
